Mrs Elaine Hopkins, President. Warsop Inner Wheel
1 July 2019 – 30 June 2020
“Being the youngest of five children, with four elder brothers and working all my life in a male dominated environment, I never saw myself as joining a woman only organisation.”
When I was asked if I would like to join Warsop Inner Wheel I thought it wasn’t for me and very politely declined. Over the next two years I joined my husband Pete, attending Rotary events and started to meet some of the ladies from Inner Wheel. I was always made welcome and soon discovered what an amazing group of strong independent ladies they were. They always seemed to be having fun whilst supporting some very worthwhile charities. I liked what I saw and decided to dip my toe into this world of fun and friendship.
The first year I sat back and let things pass me by. I have always enjoyed being involved in things so the second year when the club was looking for a treasurer, I volunteered my services. This opened up a whole new world for me.
I really began to feel part of this great worldwide organisation and realised it was not just something that happened in Warsop. I learnt so much more by going to committee meetings, district meetings, and annual conference. And last year I even went to the International convention in Australia, where I had the time of my life with so many likeminded women from all over the world.
Not only am I so proud to be this year’s president of The Inner Wheel Club of Warsop, I am also in my third year as District Treasurer.
I love all that Inner Wheel stands for and it has become very much a part of my social life whether it be attending a social event or organising a charity event and the icing on the cake is the fun and true friendships I have made along the way.
Each year the President is asked to select a key charity for the club to support. I have chosen two as my main charities which are both very close to my heart.
I have chosen The Oaklands at Warsop which a residential complex for adults with learning difficulties. They do some fantastic work with the residents and the staff are so caring and loving towards them. They have received an outstanding classification from the CQC at their last inspection. I wanted to support a local charity within our community, and I feel that this is such a worthwhile charity.
My other charity is Breast Cancer as I have lost two sisters-in-law to this awful disease at 42 and 57 years of age. I am sure that everyone knows at least one person who has been touched by breast cancer. I am supporting them in memory of Janet and Meryle and in the hope that one day they may find a cure for all suffers.
If we can raise some money this year and along the way support these fantastic charities whilst having fun then I will be one very happy president.
We have some fantastic events planned across the year, for more details please look on our 2019/2020 events page.
If you want to come and visit us to see if Inner Wheel is something for you please give me a call on 07731 678521 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We would love to see you and we meet the first Wednesday of the month at The Hostess Restaurant (NG19 8LL) at 7pm. If you would like to just come to the monthly meeting that is fine you can do as much or as little as you like.
I am looking forward to my year as president and working with the amazing ladies of The Inner Wheel Club of Warsop you would be most welcome to join us.
