Thank You, Janet

President Christine with Immediate Past President Janet handing over the gift of precious earrings from the club

My year began much as Ann’s year had the year before when I was presented with my chain of office for the incoming year by Ann in Christine’s Garden due to Covid regulations.

However, the situation soon settled down and restrictions became less strict, although still uncertain. By March we were able to return to the Hostess from the John Fretwell Centre and it felt a bit more like business as usual.

Throughout my year, despite everything, due to the fantastic efforts of our Club members, we have been able to raise a fantastic amount of money for my chosen causes, and, no doubt,Gloria will report on the exact figures.

This was despite not having the Warsop Carnival again and not being able to stand at the Christmas Light Switch On to sell calendars due to the weather.

We have been able to help the John Eastwood Hospice, my main Charity. The Oaklands. The John Fretwell Sporting Trust the Plough Food Bank at Warsop. Mansfield Wildlife Rescue. International and MIND, our District Chairman Jackie Chapman’s Charity for her year. We did this by raising funds at our events throughout the year and I hope everyone found it enjoyable and our speakers interesting, informative andsometimes amusing.

One of the highlights of every Presidents year is the Charter Anniversary Party andmine was no exception. My thanks go to Jean Nock for being my Charter Secretary, Christine Fretwell and Sue Pasierb, for the flowers, and to everyone who helped.

One of the highlights of the evening was when Jackie Chapman our District Chairman presented Elaine (MBE) with the Margarette Golding Award for her service to Inner Wheel. It was a very well-kept secret and so richly deserved. I also think most people enjoyed our entertainment, The Moonshiners, too.

We have so many inspiring women in our Club, Elaine being one and who will be our District Chairman in the coming year. All members of our Club deserve accolades for their selfless contributions past and present.

IPP Janet, presents President Christine with the chain of office

As I have said previously, We Are all equal and equally valued. I have really enjoyed my year as President.

I had to learn on the job, as I didn’t get the usual learning curve in my year as Vice President, because of Covid putting a spanner in the works, but I was pleased to have the support of our very experienced members to keep me on the straight and narrow most of the time.

One of the best things for me as President was getting to know my fellow members really well and finding out what wonderful ladies you all are. I am proud to call all of you, my friends.

One of the things I will definitely miss is being the centre of attention which I thought I would hate.

Also, I think I have grown so much in confidence over the year. I still never get through everything without making at least one mistake. I can laugh at it now and remember right at the beginning I always said, “you can laugh at me as well as with me, I don’t mind.

I would like to thank all my committee and members for all your hard work and for helping me get through the year. You are Stars.

Thank you everyone.

Thank you, Janet.
