The 9th March 2018 seems such a long time ago now as we head in to April. But our memories of the International Spring Market at the Oaklands Centre are still very much with us. Unlike recent winter weather days, this was a wonderful, bright sunny day as International Service Officer (ISO) Sue welcomed everyone to Warsop’s International Spring Market, at its new location.
These market events are always a joint venture of volunteers and attendees and to be successful require a good attendance from both. Thanks to quality not quantity this year the lovely ladies who came in support of this International fundraising event raised over £700 towards Inner Wheel international charities.
The Spring Market is a fabulous event with amazing stalls. This year Sue’s Boutique was accompanied by a range of beautiful bags and reloved jewellery. Ladies, with all those Inner Wheel events coming up, plus weddings, Christening and other celebrations this was the place to have been to bag a bargain!
We were very well supported by our regular stall holders who had prepared exciting goodies for Easter. The wonderful books, toys and handmade items from Kay, I am sure will have been lovingly presented Easter morning and no doubt received with welcome arms. Margaret was there with her gorgeous cards and with so many special birthday and anniversaries this year, this was a busy stall.
Vice President Ruth asked Angela to keep the away from the bric-a-brac stall year as hubby Dave said there was no more room for the glass wear she keeps bringing home. Despite the wonderful Anne and Angela being such persuasive sales assistants, Ruth was a good girl and didn’t buy anything from them. However, she went to Christine’s flower stall and couldn’t resist a stunning crystal vase for just £2. Dave hasn’t noticed it yet as it is currently hidden by Easter cards and supporting several bunches of yellow chrysanthemums. So, don’t tell him!!
There is always a fantastic display of cakes at these events and most people went home with either full bellies or something for the weekend. ISO Sue made a delicious lemon drizzle tray bake; the smell was incredible. She only makes it available at the Spring Market, oh and the Warsop Carnival in July so don’t miss out!
For any member who has never attended a market, volunteering doesn’t always mean having to be at the event. You can provide much needed raffle prizes, you can bake cakes, or simply buy a £3 ticket. On the day we welcomed those ladies who were able to attend as volunteers for the first time. From the laughter coming through the serving hatch it sounds like they were thoroughly enjoyed the friendship and service with some of our regular volunteers.
All our volunteers were wonderful and could be seen helping to run the cake stall, serve teas and coffee, selling raffle tickets, collecting tickets and entrance money. Some were helping to run a stall such as the boutique, jewellery, bric-a-brac, books and flowers. Others were washing pots, tidying up, taking home tea towels to wash them. So many jobs that can go unnoticed, but without them the Market days would not be the fantastic successes they are.
Thank you one and all for your wonderful contributions, we couldn’t have done it without you.
