Well that went fast! 6 months gone already. I remember sitting down this time last year to with my vice Ruth to finalise and plan my coming year. And now I’m half way through my time as President. Is it me or does it feel like the next six months will go by in a flash too?
If you follow us on Facebook or read our web page, you’ll know we are not a club to sit back and twiddle our thumbs in the winter. So, let’s see what we’ve been up to since our successful Christmas Market in November.
Well, in December we started with a local community event in Warsop called ‘The Shed’. Many local business, charities and community groups from Warsop Parish and District came together on the 2nd for an afternoon of festive fun. Warsop Inner Wheel provided the usual tea, coffee and cake refreshments, but we branched out this year with delicious homemade soups and bread rolls. Perfect for a wintery day.
We know how busy it gets this time of year, but Santa did manage to come and see us with more than a little help from the guys in Warsop, Shirebrook and District Rotary.
Our Member of Council, Past President Gloria narrowly escaped being taken back to the North Pole by Santa. We think there may have been too much sherry taken, washing down the mince pies. The Shed afternoon was a wonderful community event and we want to say a very big thank you to all our wonderful ladies for volunteering. We know how hard it is to fit in everything before Christmas so volunteering at this time of year is always very much appreciated.
From a large-scale community event, we went straight in to a very small-scale social event, holding our clubs Christmas meal at Ciao Bella in Mansfield. There were a few people that were worried this choice was a little far from the norm. But once the ladies arrived and found a beautiful marquee with Christmas cheer in abundance, the merriment began, the pasta was served and the obligatory selfies began.
Not complete with those two events in the first week of December, the Club held its annual flower arranging day where members of Inner Wheel District 22 came from far and wide to join us. Facilitated at the John Fretwell Centre, were Sue and Christine demonstrated their amazing talents. They never do cease to astound us with their floristry flare.
So, all in all, we have had a pretty busy end to 2017. And if you are like our busy president with a full-on work life, large family and busy home to run; you will have thrown in house move, major reconstruction and a kitchen refit as well; all in the week before Christmas.
It is now 2018 and what can we expect? Well two new members were inducted in January. Wasn’t that a fantastic way to kick off the new year? We welcome Fiona and Gillian, with much fun and friendship .
If you are interested in becoming a member of Warsop Inner Wheel, or perhaps you want to be a member of another club, then get in touch and find your local club. We hope you find one that has as much fun in a year as we do.
Happy New Year and our best wishes for fun and friendship in 2018.
From President Helen and all the members of Warsop Inner Wheel.
