Members and friends attended the final fundraising event in May of President Gloria’s year, an afternoon tea at member Ruth Ullyot’s beautiful home.
Lovely sandwiches, fresh warm scones, of course cakes and chocolate strawberries, with pots of tea and coffee were served in a delightful setting with wonderful company.
There was too much of course, so food parcels were made up and sent out to two of our members who were not well enough to attend.
A lovely afternoon continued with a raffle to swell the funds for the NSPCC. Cheques to the NSPCC Schools Service and the local branch will be presented at the June Annual General Meeting.
Following a fantastic year of fundraising, Gloria has also presented cheques to the St John Ambulance, The Oaklands Centre, Warsop Sporting Trust, the Nottinghamshire Hospice, the Royal British Legion, and Hearing Dog for a Deaf Child, and John Eastwood Hospice.
Whilst also leading the Club, Gloria has attended many District events and Inner Wheel Club Charters; she has also visited over 100 schools as part of her volunteer work for the NSPCC Schools Service.
We at the club are so very proud of all she has done this year, for charity and for the Club. She has been a wonderful president and carried out her role with gusto. The Club are proud that she will be taking up the role of Member of Council; and as she moves over for incoming President Helen, Gloria will also be taking on the role of Club events secretary…. perhaps she won’t be putting her feet up just yet.
