‘It was such a wonderful evening. I’m still coming to terms with all the members lovely feedback and comments for our evening to celebrate the 44th Charter.’ President Gloria Humphrey
President Gloria received birthday wishes and greetings from Clubs across Inner Wheel District 22 on Wednesday 2 November at the Warsop Club Charter. Almost 100 guests joined Gloria and Members of Warsop Inner Wheel to celebrate the Club’s 44th ‘birthday’. Opening the evening Gloria welcomed everyone to the occasion and introduced her top table guests thanking everyone for coming.
During the roll call, Club Secretary Sue, invited each club to bring greetings from their respective areas. Top table honorary guest Di Hylton gave a heart warming greeting on behalf of the District Committee members and reminded everyone of what a fantastic and growing club Warsop is. Warsop Rotary President Tim Bower entertained with a witty, flawless and personal greeting to President Gloria on behalf of Warsop, Shirebrook and District Rotary Club, who are closely linked with Warsop Inner Wheel.
Every Inner Wheel club holds a charter each year to celebrate another year of friendship in the life of the club. Members treat a charter very much as a celebration and an opportunity to meet other members from across the district, invite special friends and share happy memories together.
The Hostess Restaurant served our guests with a wonderful selection from a three course meal and as always excellent customer service was seen throughout.
A candle to Friendship is lit at the beginning of every club meeting, so on venerable occasions this tradition is given a prominent place in the evening’s running order. The candle to the past was lit by Sharon Smith, the Club’s Immediate Past President. President Gloria spoke briefly before lighting the candle to the present. One of the Club’s newest members Joy Brealey, gave a lovely speech and thanked the Club members for making her welcome, whilst lighting the candle for the future. International Service Officer, Christine Fretwell, lit the candle to International and wished all clubs around the world a happy and bright future.
Some members have attended many charters, for some this was their first. From the start of the evening until the finish the buzz of laugher and conversation in the room was electrifying. People chatted and laughed at their tables, and wandered around the room meeting and greeting old friends and new. That is until the anticipation of the entertainment starting, when the room fell silent.

Our entertainment was a beautiful young lady called Lily Taylor-Ward. Throughout Lily’s performance the audience listened in stunned silence to her amazing voice. Gloria first heard Lily when she was crooning to her 94 year old veteran father in law at a Royal British Legion Celebration. Lily is currently studying for a degree in Musical Theatre at the London College of Music, and has an Operatic career ahead of her. Lily has successfully auditioned for the part of Maria in West Side Story and Gloria offered her our congratulations for her wonderful achievement. Lily sang a range of musical hits and brought a tear to everyone’s eyes with her repertoire of operatic pieces.
President Gloria thanked everyone for coming and in particular thanked members Sue Pasierb and Christine Fretwell for providing the stunning floral table decorations. 6 of Warsop’s Founder members were in attendance and were asked to receive an arrangement with thanks from the Club.
A fabulous evening, good wishes and a safe journey home message was delivered by President Gloria. Enjoy, we did!
