It all started back in March when our local Morrison’s Superstore offered a Serrano Ham to one of our members, for the club to use as it saw fit. We were all incredibly excited and never before has meat been so high on the topic of conversation at the club committee meetings. We chatted and discussed what it would look like, how big it would be, when it would arrive and most importantly what we could do with it. We finally agreed that the Club would hold a mediterranean afternoon, hosted by member Lynne and husband Graham at their home in Warsop.
All funds from the afternoon would be raised for President Gloria’s charity, the NSPCC. So Sunday 07 August 2016 was the chosen date and knowing what a fantastic afternoon it would be members and partners turned up in abundance. The sun came out and the atmosphere was infectious with fun, friendship and of course food. Our hosts provided salads to accompany the prized Ham and members brought some amazing pudding that were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Behind the scenes there is always a good opportunity to wear and apron and lots of extra hands to help our hosts Lynne and Graham with the washing up.
The Serrano Ham was ceremoniously carved by President Gloria before handing over to our expert meat man Graham. It wasn’t long before some ‘ham’some chappies were lining up to taste it.
The afternoon was full of activities including a raffle and an auction facilitated by Jeff (above, pointing at the man with a dimple, that bought the Vintage Dimple whisky). Some fantastic items and promises were donated by club members.
To list just a few: a vintage bottle of whisky, a gormet dinner for 4 people, a cake a month for a year, three christmas wreaths and an afternoon tea for 6 people. We certainly have some generous and talented members in our club.
